In this classic, the first comprehensive application of cognitive science to political science, Rykoff analyzes the unconscious and rhetorical views of liberals and conservatives, exploring the completely different but rather remarkable constituent concepts of morality of the "left" and the "right." The 2002 edition of the book includes Rykov's introduction and epilogue, including his observations on the clash of major ideologies in the United States since the 2000 presidential election.
About the author
George Rykoff is a professor in the linguistics department at the University of California, Berkeley. His books include Women, Fire, and Dangerous Things, The Metaphors We Live By (co-author), Reason Beyond Calm (co-author), and Philosophy of the Flesh (co-author) and Where Mathematics Comes From (co-author), published by the University of Chicago Press.
