An introduction to the Aging Tiger
South Korea is the world's most rapidly aging country, and the huge aging population is forcing changes to the retirement system. South Koreans have been calling for a later retirement for decades because of a gap of several years between retirement and pension age, forcing many older people to rely on temporary work to get by.
However, since the reform of the retirement system involves many aspects of social welfare, intergenerational equity, labor relations and other issues, the process of reform will inevitably face multiple games. Population aging has become one of the key trends of the 21st century, and the discussion of South Korea's retirement system and aging provides a glimpse into the future of other countries.
