《道德》内容简介

　　伯纳德•威廉斯是过去五十年里最重要的哲学家之一，《道德：伦理学导论》是他出版的第一部著作，也是道德哲学的经典之作。

　　在本书中，威廉斯直面道德哲学写作的危险：空洞无聊与误导人；并以自己锐利的思想风格破除了这些危险。他通过讨论伦理学，引出道德的诸多局限和问题；解释、分析并区分了无道德、主观主义、相对主义等主要道德立场，之后联系责任、选择、角色、标准及人性探究“善好”，最后考察并批判了用道德达成幸福的最头脑简单的方式——功利主义。

　　伯纳德•威廉斯（BernardWilliams，1929—2003）

　　20世纪最杰出的哲学家之一，先后任教于剑桥大学、牛津大学和加利福尼亚大学伯克利分校。其主要研究领域是伦理学、知识论、心灵哲学和政治哲学。威廉斯对功利主义和康德伦理学的批判，以及对道德和道德要求的本质的探究，主导了近五十年来西方伦理理论的思考，可以说是我们时代最重要的道德哲学家。主要著作包括《道德：伦理学导论》《道德运气》《伦理学与哲学的限度》《羞耻与必然性》等。

A brief introduction to Morality

Bernard Williams is one of the most important philosophers of the last fifty years. Morality: An Introduction to Ethics is his first published work and a classic of moral philosophy.

In this book, Williams confronts the dangers of writing moral philosophy: it is empty and misleading; He eliminated these dangers with his sharp style of thought. By discussing ethics, he brings out the limitations and problems of morality. Explain, analyze and distinguish the main moral positions such as morality, subjectivism and relativism, then explore the "good" in relation to responsibility, choice, role, standard and human nature, and finally examine and criticize the simplest way to achieve happiness with morality - utilitarianism.

"One's initial duty in the study of moral philosophy is to grasp directly the moral phenomena in one's own experience and imagination, and to satisfy, on a more theoretical level, the requirements of the other branches of philosophy... There is no reason to suppose that moral philosophy or 'theory of value' should produce some interesting self-contained theory."

BernardWilliams (1929-2003)

One of the most prominent philosophers of the 20th century, he taught at Cambridge, Oxford and the University of California, Berkeley. His main research areas are ethics, epistemology, philosophy of mind and political philosophy. Williams' critique of utilitarianism and Kantian ethics, as well as his inquiry into the nature of morality and moral claims, has dominated Western ethical theory for nearly fifty years and is arguably the most important moral philosopher of our time. His books include Morality: An Introduction to Ethics, Moral Luck, The Limits of Ethics and Philosophy, and Shame and Necessity.
