【 Content Introduction 】

Pu-erh tea has been cultivated in Yunnan's "six tea mountains" for centuries, and it travels from the southwest to the world via the ancient Tea Horse Road. In the 1990s, the characteristics of Pu 'er "more aged and more fragrant" were rediscovered, and it could be drunk, tasted and invested, which became the favorite of tea customers, and its value also rose all the way. However, in 2007, the Pu 'er tea market went up and down, reaching a climax and then collapsing.

The book traces this phenomenon from beginning to end. Through the tracking and attention of Pu 'er tea collection, processing, trading and consumption space, anthropologist Zhang Jinghong vividly describes the process of Pu 'er tea from a family handicraft to an important industry, and in this transformation process, readers will enter the life and dramatic conflicts of people in Pu 'er rivers and rivers, and feel their perseverance under multiple forces.

The first edition of the book was published in English in 2013, and it won the International Conference of Scholars in Asian Studies (ICAS) Outstanding Book Award for Social Science in English 2013-2015. Over the next decade, the author returned to the field several times, revised the first edition by more than 60% of the length, and released a new Chinese version in 2024. This book is not only for tea lovers and connoisseurs, but also for readers who want to understand the localization of objects, globalization, modernity, and the re-creation of traditions.
