　　P.J.E.皮布尔斯（P.J.E.Peebles，1935.4.25—），美国物理学家和理论宇宙学家，现代理论宇宙学创始人之一，美国艺术与科学院院士，美国国家科学院院士，普林斯顿大学阿尔伯特·爱因斯坦科学荣誉教授和物理学荣誉教授。

　　2004年获得邵逸夫天文学奖。2005年获得克拉福德奖。2019年获得诺贝尔物理学奖，以表彰其在“使我们理解宇宙的演化和地球在宇宙中的位置方面”的贡献。这主要包括他在大爆炸模型，宇宙微波背景辐射，暗物质、暗能量，以及宇宙结构形成等方面的理论成就。他的《物理宇宙学》《宇宙的大尺度结构》《物理宇宙学原理》等已成为宇宙学领域的经典教科书。另著有《宇宙学的世纪》等。

A brief introduction to The Whole Truth

What is the core of physical science? What is the philosophy that underlies and guides its development? Does the concept of objective reality make sense? If so, does our theory of physical science effectively approach it?

This book is a continuing reflection on these questions by a world-renowned cosmologist. He took cosmology as an example, combined with his own scientific practical experience, and deeply explored the important issue of the nature of science.

The author traces the thinking of scientists on the nature of science since Einstein, briefly expounds some basic scientific research work hypotheses, and reviews in detail Einstein's theory of relativity and cosmology principles, the big Bang theory, as well as dark matter, cosmological constant and other issues, thus revealing that mankind has passed more and more rigorous tests. Evidence that approaches objective reality in successive approximations - this is what the author finds "the whole truth."

About the author

P.J.E.Peebles (April 25, 1935 -), American physicist and theoretical cosmologist, one of the founders of modern theoretical cosmology, member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, member of the National Academy of Sciences, Albert Einstein Emeritus Professor of Science and Emeritus Professor of Physics at Princeton University.

He received the Shaw Prize for Astronomy in 2004. He received the Crawford Award in 2005. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2019 for "enabling our understanding of the evolution of the universe and the place of the Earth in it." This includes his theoretical achievements in the Big Bang model, the cosmic microwave background radiation, dark matter, dark energy, and the formation of the structure of the universe. His books Physical Cosmology, Large-scale Structure of the Universe and Principles of Physical Cosmology have become classic textbooks in the field of cosmology. He also wrote The Century of Cosmology.

He laid the foundation for almost all modern cosmological research, both theoretical and observational, transforming a highly speculative field into an exact science.
