　　印度经济学家，美国康奈尔大学经济学和国际研究C.Mark讲席教授，曾在哈佛大学、麻省理工学院等知名学府担任客座教授。曾任印度政府首席经济顾问、世界银行高级副行长兼首席经济学家。主要研究领域为发展经济学、福利经济学、新政治经济学等。

An introduction to the content of "Economist Picking up Fun"

This book is a collection of essays by renowned economist and former Chief economist of the World Bank Kaushik Basu on how he thinks and makes decisions in his daily life as an economist. The book is a collection of essays on academia, economics, policy, travel, and literature. The book offers a unique glimpse into the author's engagement with the world: his views on contemporary policy and economic issues, his explorations of different parts of the world, and his reflections on the people, ideas, and books that influenced him personally. While not losing humor, it allows readers to observe and understand many real economic phenomena through the author's perspective.

The author reviews contemporary debates in economics and political science and offers his own opinions and criticisms. The book is interspersed with commentaries on people, places and economic theory. The characters we meet here range from Nobel laureates Kenneth Arrow, Paul Samuelson and Amartya Sen to the author's 90-year-old mother. The places described in the book range from Jerusalem and Florence, to the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan, to Mount Alban in Mexico.

About the author

KaushikBasu

He is an Indian economist and C. M. ark Chair Professor of Economics and International Studies at Cornell University. He has served as a visiting professor at Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and other prestigious universities. He was previously Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India and Senior Vice President and Chief Economist of the World Bank. His research interests include development economics, welfare economics, and new political economy.
