A brief introduction to William Blake
As noted literary theorist Harold Bloom has noted, the book is neither a systematic biography nor an exhaustive guide to Blake's work, but rather a book for a broad audience. Professor Damrosch has abandoned the abstruse theory and issued an invitation to understanding and enjoyment, in order to help the public appreciate Black's deeply original "illusions" and to open the "door of perception" to the symbols by which Buchner expressed such illusions. In addition, the author shares what he has been convinced of in his lectures over the years in order to steadily draw the reader into Blake's world of poetry and mythology, while skillfully connecting them to Buchard's notes, paintings, prints, and sketches.
