　　20多年前，本书作者在纽约大学读心理学研究生，论文选题是人类的忏悔心理。为搜集各种临终遗言作为第一手素材，她首先去了藏书无数的纽约市公共图书馆，结果发现能找到东西基本仅限于名人的临终遗言。于是她重新整理思路，突发奇想，花了三百五十美元在《纽约时报》上登了一个小广告，征集临终遗言，带来了意想不到的效果，那些来信深深地打动了她，于是她决定把这些故事呈现给更多的人。

　　袁苡程（美籍），北京人。曾留学美国，在密尔斯（Mills College）女子学院获英文创意写作硕士和哥伦比亚大学（Columbia University)心理学硕士。在美国出版过英文小说《无名女人的女儿》（The Daughter of No Name Woman）。现在北京从事心理工作和写作，翻译过《天才儿童的悲剧》（哈尔滨出版社2008年出版）。

More than 20 years ago, the author was a graduate student in psychology at New York University, and his thesis topic was the human psychology of confession. She first went to the New York City Public Library, which has a vast collection of last words, and found that what she could find was largely limited to the last words of famous people. So she reorganized her thinking and, on a whim, placed a $350 AD in The New York Times asking for last words. It had an unexpected effect. The letters moved her so much that she decided to bring the stories to more people.

About the author

Yuan Yicheng (American), from Beijing. She studied in the United States and received a master's in Creative Writing in English from Mills College and a master's in psychology from Columbia University. She is The author of the novel The Daughter of No Name Woman in the United States. He is now engaged in psychological work and writing in Beijing, and has translated The Tragedy of Gifted Children (Harbin Publishing House, 2008).
