About the author

William James. The first philosopher and psychologist in the United States, he is also an educator, an advocate of pragmatism, and one of the founders of the American functional school of psychology. He was one of the first experimental psychologists in America. He was born in New York City to a science-based pastor and died in Chocurua, New Hampshire. Although James did not establish his own unique psychological system, he had many ideas that contributed to the birth of modern psychological trends. James' Principles of Psychology, published in 1890, is not only regarded as a classic work of psychology, but also recognized as a milestone in the rise of the American functional school. He constructed a complete system of scientific psychology. He is also the originator of stream of consciousness theory and emotion theory.
