  作者结合问卷调查与深度访谈,对“小镇做题家”的家庭背景、学业表现、社会适应、就业出路等情况作出客观全面的分析。本书以通俗的语言、翔实的数据、生动的案例,结合受访者口述,呈现农村与小镇青年社会流动征程中的内心世界,并力求揭示在精英大学中,个人的生命历程如何与宏观的社会进程相缠绕。

  作者简介

  谢爱磊

  教育社会学学者,华南师范大学教育科学学院教授。香港大学教育学哲学博士,剑桥大学访问学者。主要研究领域为社会发展与教育公平,近期关注的研究课题主要有农村籍大学生在精英高校的适应、城市中产阶层的教育焦虑等。对探索宏观社会结构变迁与个体精神境遇之间的联系有持续兴趣。希望研究有助于发掘基层“声音”,并将其引入主流的政策文献和学术讨论中。

In mainstream discourse, inspirational stories are the only answer, and this book is about another.

Since 2013, scholar Xie Ailei has tracked nearly 2,000 students at four elite universities in China, nearly 28 percent of whom come from rural areas and small towns. They stand out from the scores of tens of millions of people and become what people call "small town question makers".

At the moment of entering the school, the differences of birth emerge together. City and country, poor and rich, rich and barren... In the strange cultural world, they are stuck in a dilemma, suffering from lack, estrangement, division, confusion and loneliness. If you want to get rid of the brand of the past, you must experience torn growth and reshaping. And this is only the first step in a long climb up the social ladder.

The author makes an objective and comprehensive analysis of the family background, academic performance, social adaptation and employment prospects of "small town questioners" by means of questionnaire survey and in-depth interview. This book presents the inner world of rural and small-town youth's social mobility journey in popular language, detailed data, and vivid cases, combined with interviewees' oral narration, and tries to reveal how the life course of individuals in elite universities is intertwined with the macro social process.

About the author

Xie Ailei

Professor of Educational sociology, School of Educational Science, South China Normal University. PhD in Education, University of Hong Kong, Visiting Scholar, University of Cambridge. His main research fields are social development and educational equity, and his recent research topics include the adaptation of rural college students in elite universities and the educational anxiety of the urban middle class. He has a continuing interest in exploring the links between changes in macro social structures and individual spiritual circumstances. It is hoped that the research will help to unearth grassroots' voices' and bring them into mainstream policy literature and academic discussion.
