Canadian historian of science and former professor of the history of Science at the University of Toronto, whose most important contribution to the history of science was his defense of Galileo's scientific experiments. In 1984, he was awarded the Italian Galileo Prize for the History of Science by the Rome Bureau of Rotary International. He was awarded the 1988 Sutton Prize by the American Society for the History of Science.
